There will be a financial
aid meeting in the High School Library at
Information will be given to
help parents and students complete the Federal Financial Aid forms. Federal Financial Aid forms will be available
in the guidance office in December. The
website address for the FAFSA is www.fafsa.ed.gov. College financial aid offices indicate that
applying on-line is faster and easier.
If you choose to complete the
FAFSA online, you will need a pin number to complete the application. It takes several days to get this
number. Apply online for a pin number
now at www.pin.ed.gov. After you receive your PIN number, print it
and keep it in a safe place. (The FAFSA is part of the eligibility requirement
for several scholarships.)
The Student Financial Aid and Scholarships at Wyoming Colleges
booklet is available on-line at

this website via the high school network.
The website contains information on most of the scholarships at the
Seniors need to complete
applications for admission to technical schools and colleges. Bring the completed application to the
guidance office, so that transcripts and immunization records can be added to
the application packet. Early application
is particularly important if the student plans to attend out-of-state schools
that may have early scholarship deadlines.
Many local and state
scholarships will be noted in the announcements during the next couple of
months! Please encourage your student to
check the announcements daily and note deadlines on the scholarships. The guidance office deadline will be earlier
than the deadline noted on the application so that transcripts, etc. may be
attached. PLEASE MEET GUIDANCE OFFICE
DEADLINES to ensure timely application!!!!!!

The PHS Drama Department under the direction of Dean Vaupel and his assistant, Patty Kearnes, is pleased to present the first Dinner Theatre in PHS history. On November 18 and 19, the comedy-drama Social Life written by Nancy Oliver will be performed in the PHS cafeteria.
Social Life explores the universal themes of alienation and friendship through the growing, shifting, and unlikely relationships formed in high school. At a high school dance, two high school girls, Julie and Charisse, one a recluse and the other popular, come together to realize that their lives and concerns are actually quite similar. Simultaneously, Richard, Nuke, and Jan, the epitome of high school boys, deal with dream dates, dream worlds, and the American dream from an exchange student’s perspective, which, of course, involves American girls!
Each performance will showcase a different cast, another
first in PHS history. There will also be
a special understudy matinee performance on November 20 at
You are encouraged to

EXTRA HELP FOR STRUGGLING STUDENTS
!!!!!!!
We have
had a wonderful start to the 2004-2005 school year. The change in calendar this year has allowed
students the flexibility with three 4-day weeks. We are excited about the increase in
enrollment and percentage of students that are or will be participating in our
co-curricular activities. We have
changed our thoughts about remediation and are identifying students early and
giving either before school or after school tutoring. If
your son/daughter wishes “extra help”, have them make arrangements with their
teachers or attend the

Parents are Key in Preventing Underage
Drinking
Hopefully by now most Powell
parents have seen the billboard on Highway 14 with the message, “
A parent should ask the
question, “Do I really know if my child is using alcohol or not”? Some parents
may think that other kids, not their child, fall within the “3 out 10” group
that chooses to drink. A survey of
Unless your child is having
serious problems with alcohol, it is hard to detect if they are using - it is
not always obvious! One way to help
reduce alcohol use is by regularly monitoring your child’s activities
throughout their teenage years. Don’t
assume your child is not using. Also, it
is very important to talk to them about the consequences of underage drinking–
most high school students (75%) reported that they approved of their parents
and other adults communicating with them the importance of not using alcohol
and other drugs2. As stated
above, most kids are choosing not to drink alcohol, and parents play a key role
in helping make that decision!
