GENERAL INFORMATION & REMINDERS

The Guidance Office has forms and detailed information available on the scholarships listed on the daily announcements and on this website.

A web site available to students and parents to guide the entire “going-to-college” process – from early planning and estimating to applying for financial aid is www.wyoming.wiredscholar.com.

 

Students planning athletic participation in a Division I, II, or III school, it is time to complete your NCAA participation form! The application can be accessed at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.

 

The Student Financial Aid and Scholarships for Wyoming Colleges booklet is available on-line at http://www.uwyo.edu/sfa/schlbook/schlbook.htm. Each senior student may also access the information from this website via the high school network.  The website contains information on most of the scholarships at the University of Wyoming and the two-year schools in Wyoming.  This financial aid book is available on the high school network at 55-HOME.

 

The American Legion “Need a Lift” book of scholarships is available in the Guidance Office.  This book contains information on 1500 colleges and universities around the nation, as well as resources for financial aid and scholarships for students of veterans.  Scholarship opportunities from various organizations that sponsor scholarships for students pursuing specific majors are also noted in one section of the book.

Elks National Foundation Emergency Educational Fund Grants

Details:

¨      Grants are available to provide financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks who wish to obtain their college education.

¨      The GSUSA processes all applications and notifies ENF of the applicants selected.

¨      The applications are available at local councils and online in January 2005 and each Girl Scout Council sets its own filing deadline.

 

Ronald McDonald RMHC/HACER Scholarship

(to be used at any 2 or 4-yr school)

Criteria: 

¨      At least one parent of Hispanic or Asian heritage

¨      ACT and academics

¨      Financial need

Monsanto Commitment to Agriculture Scholarship Program

(to be used at any school)

Criteria: 

¨      Family actively engaged in production agriculture

¨      Average to above average academic record

¨      ACT minimum of 18 or SAT minimum of 850

¨      Plan to enroll in an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school

¨      Plan to pursue a career in agriculture

Montana State University - Billings

Details:

¨      To apply for new student scholarships at MSU-Billings, complete and submit the Application for Admission. 

¨      Scholarships will be awarded on an on-going basis with the initial review of applications beginning on October 15, 2004. 

¨      Apply for admission early to be considered for scholarships!

 

Montana State University-Bozeman

Details:

¨      Offering new scholarships to non-resident freshmen! 

¨      These scholarships are based upon ACT or SAT scores alone.

National Co-op Scholarship Program (to be used at specific Co-op Schools)

Participating Colleges:

¨      Antioch College, Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, Northeastern University, C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Waterloo.

National Federation of Independent Business Scholarship

(to be used at any college or vocational institute)

Criteria: 

¨      Entering freshman year at an accredited two or four-year university, college,

or vocational institute

¨      Nominated by a dues-paying member of NFIB (If students want to contact an                    

¨      NFIB member about their application, an 800 number is noted on the

¨      application materials.

Rocky Mountain College Showcase Scholarship Competition

Criteria: 

¨      Essay

¨      Personal interview with Rocky Mountain College faculty members

¨      Commitment to the purpose and value of a liberal arts education

¨      Academic and extracurricular achievements

¨      GPA of 3.4 or higher and an ACT or SAT of 23 or 1070

¨      High school and community leadership experience

Details:

¨      Showcase days are February 5 & 7, 2005.

¨      Scholarships awarded include three full-tuition Trustee Scholarships, eight $10,000 Presidential Scholarships and all participants will receive $6,500 Dean’s Awards. Renewable for four years.

Universal Technical Institute

There is information in the Guidance Office on scholarships available to students who plan to attend UTI.

 

University of Wyoming College of Computer Science, Engineering, and Math Scholarship (to be used at UW)

Criteria:

¨      Major in engineering, math, or computer science

¨      List of high school activities

¨      List of community activities

¨      List of volunteer activities

¨      List of honors received

¨      Work experience 

¨      The student is required to submit a FAFSA.

¨      The program targets underrepresented populations (women and ethnic minorities) for scholarship awards.

University of Wyoming Department of Art Scholarship

Criteria: 

¨      Major in art or art education

¨      10-20 slides of recent art work

¨      10 art works; option for in-coming freshmen ONLY

Students are encouraged to develop portfolios of art work now, so they can meet the deadline for this scholarship; it is due in the Guidance Office January 14, 2005.

 

University of Wyoming Honors Program Stipend and Scholarships

(to be used at UW)

Criteria: 

¨      ACT of 28 or SAT score of 1240 or GPA of 3.7

¨      Short essay

¨      List of activities and achievement, work experiences, and special interests,

VFW Veteran Tribute Scholarship Program (to be used at any school)

Wyoming Fiddlers Association District #2 Scholarship

(to be used at a Wyoming college)

¨      Attend and participate in at least three District #2 Wyoming Fiddlers

WRITING COMPETITIONS

Alert Magazine Essay

Details:

¨      An opportunity to earn a $500 scholarship for your published essay about a personal encounter you or someone has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse, how it was dealt with, and, in your opinion, what was right or wrong about the way the incident or problem was handled.

Cottey/Cather 2005 Writing Prize

Criteria: 

¨      Female

¨      Write and essay on a category selected from poetry, short drama, short fiction,

¨      The competition is for scholarships, cash and a trip to a professional writing symposium.

EF Global Citizen Awards, an essay contest for a 10-day, expenses-paid tour of Europe (one student essay from Powell High School will be selected)

Criteria:

Ben Kaplan’s Power of Family Scholarship competition (to be used at any school)

Criteria: 

¨      Submit an essay online at ScholarshipCoach.com.  A second essay is submitted by the primary supporter (parent, mentor, coach, or other supporter).           

¨      Grades and test scores are not required.

Due in the Guidance Office March 8, 2005.

 

Laws of Life Essay

¨      Write an essay on a value or principle of which they feel strongly.

United States Air Force Academy - Summer Seminars,

This is an opportunity to experience cadet life, meet current cadets, attend workshops of your choice, and learn about the Air Force for one week during June 2005. 

Criteria:

¨      PSAT  (Verbal – 58/Math – 56)

¨      SAT (Verbal – 580/ Math – 560)

Details:

¨      Each student’s room, board, and instructional supplies are paid.

¨      Funds granted by the Wyoming Legislature to the University of Wyoming. 

¨      Students need only provide spending money and travel expenses. 

¨      Stipends are available if needed.

¨      HSI is an enrichment program for high ability students. 

¨      Nominees should be outstanding 10th-grade students who have many of the following traits, aptitudes, and behaviors:

                  -creativity, imagination, and curiosity

To be eligible to apply, students must:

World Affairs Seminar
